Day 4 Backpack Taipei, Taiwan Trip (台湾台北行)

The Hualien & Jiufen day - Beautiful beach scenery and old streets with greenery

Continuing from my Day 3 post of the Hualien City

If you are keen to watch sunrise, remember to ask the reception the sunrise time.
They track it for their customer. How thoughtful! The sunrise was at 5.30 am the day we stayed in.
But I couldn't get to watch sunrise due to tiredness. My friend got to video the whole process for us thou. We woke up at 8am, after the complimentary breakfast and set off for cycling by the beach.

The hotel provide free bicycles for their guest. I shall not say much, let the pictures amaze you, enjoy!

Oh Ya, the weather gets warm early in Taiwan, we were cycling around 9am, but the Sun was like the "noon" sun. I got tanned after this ride too.

We got the seaview room, so my friend got the sunrise recorded down in the room. Save energy, that's smart!

Our last photo in this hotel before departing to Jiufen

We took the train to Ruifang station, there is no train that goes directly to Jiufen, you will need to stop at Ruifang station. It is approximately 2 hours journey.
Once you arrive at Ruifang, walk out of the building and cross the road to take a bus to Jiufen Old street.

This was the stop that I mentioned to wait for the bus, there is no bus shelter, it is just in front of the shops.
The bus driver will call out when you arrive at Jiufen oldstreet, so don't worry you will miss the stop. The Minsu is at the other end of this old street, so be prepared to walk because most of the Taxi would not want to drive in, due to the crowd and narrow road.

We lodge in a night at 九份山海觀 @ NTD 2400 with breakfast. The room is exactly the same as shown in their website.

This is the view from our room, we got another sea & tea view from our room. PTL!

A night view from out room, the reflection, haha!

We then took a walk in the oldstreet, most of the stalls closes at 6pm, so be sure you are in time for it.
A snap shot of the stall closed

The breathtaking view from Jiufen, how beautiful

The sunset view from this mountain

The first street food that we went for is this Taro Ball (阿婆宇圆), if you tried the ones in Msia - Blackball. This is guarantee better. We got ourselves a second bowl the next day. Rating will be 5 out of 5, because this is the only taro ball I ever ate that taste so chewy and tasty. You can opt yours either cold or hot.

We then walk to the stall that sells 红枣鲁肉肉饭 和 红枣肉圆。They called it the pork rice & red meat dumpling. It was something new to me. The dumpling was chewy with bamboo smell and red pork meat.Nice texture!

We then dawn on something rather interesting, it is BBQ snails.Of course we tried it. It was Ok for me because the meat is salty enough that covers the smell of the snail.

Not forgetting to get the Barbecue mushroom too, just opposite of the stall that sells BBQ snails
The happy face with Barbecue snail and mushroom on both hands.

My boy fell in love with this food in Ximending and got another one here. This is the popiah wrap with ice cream, peanuts and corriander leaves. 花生捲冰淇淋

We got ourselves the rice cake too for a try. 阿蘭宇粿/草仔粿 Ah Lan Hakka Glutinous Rice Cake.

We then, walk into this stall that sells Mixed Fishballs Soup and "Ju Kui" 综合丸子汤 & 油葱粿.

Thumbs up for this! Do give it a try when you drop by

This "fish"ball soup contains 5 types of "fish"ball. The flavours are fish, mushroom, cuttle fish, prawn and pork.

Spot my handsome boy!

This museum was close, as we were too late after hunting for food

Walking down the old streets to find treasures

A traditional theater that still operates, which you can walk in for a movie. but we were also too late as it closes at 6pm too.

We saw a shop with people doing "facial" with a thread. This is a traditional type of facial, which is called "Wan Mian" (挽面). This lady has 50 years of experience and the purpose of this facial is to remove all the blackheads, dead skin.Great experience.

During the night, Jiufen is a dead town. So we went to bed early to prepare ourselves for the next day. Ending my post with my "Wan Mian" experience and a night view of Jiufen.
